Bioinformatics and Biostatistics (BIO2 ) Core

The Bio2 core is a scientifically complex facility that provides data analysis, scientific computing and data management support to a wide range of scientists within the Wellcome-MRC Institute of Metabolic Science (IMS) and across the wider scientific community in Cambridge. The remit of the core includes:Use, develop and maintain state of the art SOP and methods for the analysis (and visualisation) of scientific data.Provide assistance in biostatistics and experimental design.Mine and analyse the information contained in (large) genomic databases such as UK Biobank and Genomics England.Process, analyse and integrate high volumes of heterogeneous data such as multi-omics data.Support and liaise with other Core Facilities at the IMS such as the Genomics/Transcriptomics Core (GTC), the Core Metabolomics and Lipidomics Laboratory (CMaLL), the Imaging Core and the Proteomics and Peptidomics core.Provide support for scientific computing and data management, focussing on strategies (e.g. version control and software containers) to implement the FAIR data principles. The Bio2 Core Facility encourages the development of long-term collaborative research arrangements between investigators and our team. This kind of synergies will lead to the creation of cross-functional work teams to tackle effectively the complexity of quantitative bio-medicine in the -omic era.
