The Tree of Life Programme uses DNA sequencing and cellular technologies to investigate the diversity and origins of life on Earth. Our research covers all eukaryotic organisms, which means all complex life with a nucleus in their cells – that is every animal, plant, fungi and protist on the planet.

Creating global impact through open and reproducible science
Acting as a hub for the UK functional genomics community, we are supporting partnerships between leading researchers, clinicians and industry. By using advanced tools like gene editing, disease-relevant cell models and AI we aim to explore how genetic changes contribute to disease.
By making our research open, accessible and reproducible, we are helping to create real benefits for scientists and patients across the world.
